Microsoft 2007

Microsoft 2007

There are enough versions of Microsoft software to confuse anyone. Here's our summary to keep our minds straight.

I'm currently using Vista on my laptop. So far, a few bugs, apparently caused by Roxio software. A few things I really like, a few I don't. It is a resource pig, so if you don't have lots of hard drive, memory and processor, don't bother.

Office 2007 gets a very mixed review from me. A lot of functions users don't know how to use are easier to find and implement. But if you already know the tools, they're a lot harder to find. It is a very mixed bag of easier to learn and harder for the learned.

Windows Vista

How many versions of Vista are there? Officially, six. But then there are the different ways to buy them (OEM, CAL, Retail, Retail upgrade...), there are dozens of options all told. The following charts, from the Microsoft website, contain helpful, basic information about the versions - except for Vista Starter and Vista Enterprise. You may be better off going to this page to see the current details that Microsoft offers.

Office 2007

  • There are eight versions of Microsoft Office 2007 planned for release.
  • This does not include any Live, Internet accessible, versions that Microsoft may add to the mix.
  • OEM software is available only with the purchase of a computer. The five versions of Office 2007 for consumer and small business are available as OEM software.
  • The consumer and small business versions should also be available as retail packages.
  • Volume licensing packages require purchasing media and licenses and is generally reserved for businesses, government and school use.
